Sunfest Valentine's Day "JACE MEYER'S" Winning story!

HOOKED ON LOVE!

When I saw this contest I just knew I  had to apply! I've been living away from my husband for just about six months now, and cannot wait to get home and do what we do best- everything with the radio on.  My next visit home will be a blessing, but if it could coincide with Sunfest I just know it will be a hoot! Winning this contest will mean getting one more chance to spend together just the two of us. Here's my entry:

My worst valentines ever was 6 years ago. Mitch had been busy putting together the perfect gift. I was busy imagining it on my finger. We finally had made it through the dinner, the gazing longingly at one another, the bottle of wine, and I was itching to see what he had spent so much time getting just right. I thought it was the moment where he would ask me to spend the rest of our lives together. That moment had finally come. He pulled me over to the couch, I tried to act like I was totally surprised. I closed my eyes, and he pulled out a fishing tackle box.

I opened it with baited breath (no pun intended) and there it was. The wedding ring. No, not the one for me, the one for rainbow trout- a sure-fire-bet at the fishing holes we frequent. Needless to say I was disappointed, but I persevered.  Okay I thought, this must just be the clue- why else would he put that tackle right in the middle on the top tray?! I rummaged through that damn box, looking desperately for an even smaller box with a bigger prize at the bottom. It never came. 

I could tell Mitch was impressed with how passionately I looked through this new gift. He was proud-- he thought he had done well. 

I came up crying. You see, the fishing tackle box was just a fishing tackle box. There was no engagement ring, just that friggin' wedding ring so famous for trout. 

So I cried some more. The kind of ugly cry you see on tv when girls don't get what they want. It was bad, even for a country loving, rubber-boot wearin' kind of girl. Today was not going to be my day. Looking back— thank goodness. I've never been much for the hoorah of Valentines day, and Mitch has something much better up his sleeve. 

A year later he proposed without a ring, on the living room floor, in the most honest and real way someone could ask another to spend forever with. I've been hooked on love ever since, and waiting desperately to come back home.

We are pretty stoked about launching our Sunfest Ambassador program! We only have 20 spots so if you are interested, please shoot us an email right away at enter@sunfestconcerts.com. Sunfest is searching for people in various locations across Vancouver Island who meet the following criteria:

1. Have an excellent signage location- (this can be at your home, small business or on raw land with road frontage). By excellent signage location we mean a high visibility, high traffic area where vehicles are travelling 50km/hr or slower. Our preferences are intersections with a stop sign or traffic light.
2. Are active on social media- if you love to post and tweet and you're as crazy about Sunfest as we are, we want to hear from you! If you have an awesome signage location but aren't quite up to speed on Facebook or Twitter, no worries. We'll happily set you up and show you the basics. It's easy and fun and Sunfest fans are an incredibly friendly bunch.
3. Are willing to distribute Sunfest posters to various locations in your community between now and the event- super easy.
4. Able to volunteer as a Sunfest Ambassador 4 hours per day at Sunfest- as a Sunfest Ambassador you get the fun jobs and there's no volunteering on Thursday. The kickoff party is a special thank you for all your help. This evening is for you so come on out and enjoy!
5. Live in one of the following areas- Victoria, Duncan, Ladysmith, Chemainus, Nanaimo, Parksville/Qualicum, Port Alberni & West, Comox Valley and Campbell River & North. 

In return for all your support and enthusiasm, Sunfest will provide a complete festival package! This includes a 4-day pass to Sunfest, free camping, Ambassador seating, access to the corporate beer garden all weekend, a "Sunfest Ambassador" t-shirt and a special invitation as our guest to the kickoff party on Thursday evening. FAN OF THE MONTH! 

Sunfest wants to kick off the New Year with a bang and since we promised 2012 would be chock full of activities and contests we thought this would be the perfect time to announce our FAN OF THE MONTH CONTEST!   In keeping with the friendly atmosphere at Sunfest, we will be choosing a Sunfest-worthy photo at the beginning of each month and uploading it to our home page.  If you see your mug there, you have been chosen as Fan of the Month.  The contest is big on fun and short on rules so here are a few details on how to enter..

1. Send us a "Sunfest-worthy" photo of yourself.  That means a fun, funny or laugh out loud pic that is appropriate for a family-festival website.  We would love to see a photo of you from Sunfest 2011.  If you missed Sunfest 2011, we are truly sorry, but the good news is you are still more than welcome to submit a picture!  We love new friends.  If your buddies are in the picture, crop them out or be prepared to share the wealth!  That too could be fun.
2. The first draw will be on February 1 and the 1st day of every month thereafter for the months of March, April, May, June and July.  Six great chances at Sunfest fame!
3. You must purchase a Sunfest ticket to win. Yeah that seems fair.
4. Submission of your photo is synonymous with permission to upload your pic onto the Sunfest website for promotional purposes only.  Sorry young Sunfest friends, but you must be 19 years or older to enter.
5. Send your photo to enter@sunfestconcerts.com. We can hardly wait to see it!  If you are chosen as a SUNFEST FAN OF THE MONTH  because your pic truly exudes the spirit of Sunfest, your picture will show up on the Sunfest Home page.  We will have all six prizes ready for pick up at the Social Media tent during the event.  
6. When you submit your photo, please include your name, a contact email address and phone number.  We will contact you before we post your picture on our website.
